Riding for Hope with Dr William Tan

Above is the reason why we had to be in bed by midnight. We woke up at 7am and cycled to the Esso station opposite Holland Village to meet a sleepy Ling (who forgot her gloves and to change her pedals) and Max. We didn't have time to have breakfast, and had to make haste to Toa Payoh so as not to be late. So we pedalled like crazy for just less than 10km, on nothing but water from our Camelbaks. Wail.

After registering for the charity ride, we managed to grab some Mee Pok at a nearby kopitiam. Then it began. All I can say is Dr William Tan is an amazing man. He's 46 and has been paralysed since he was 2, yet he spends a lot of time every year doing wheelchair marathons to raise funds for hospitals - Yesterday, it was for elderly stroke patients.

It was pretty cool riding the roads with Cisco as chaperone. The roads were our's to own yesterday. We ran red lights, got on highways, and had cyclists blocking filter lanes to ensure safety for Dr Tan, all the while with his entourage of bikers behind him, egging him on. Can't quite remember our route, but here is a list of some of the stops we made:

Toa Payoh - Geylang - Keppel - Jurong East - Ulu Sembawang - Kranji - Sungei Buloh - Thomson

Think the pelaton made it back to Toa Payoh after that. Ling, Max and I vamoosed at Thomson as they had to be back home to meet Ling's sister. And I wanted to ride back to the West safely since I'm not accustomed to road riding.

Total distance clocked: 115km

I got to be a roadie for a day, and my legs aren't aching at all! Woop!
