sTTorm rides like a dream. I took her out on a test ride along the canal before and it didn't feel like I was riding a bike at all.

Even with slicks, Shadowfax feels a lot heavier. But sTTorm, she rides like the wind. My legs were as light as air as I breezed by on the flat terrain. I whizzed past and heard the air whistle as I passed. When Hubba said to go faster, I accelerated and practically flew from one end of the canal to the other... or so it felt. Apparently I was going at around 30km/hr, which is a speed I've done on Shadowfax, but it sure as hell never felt that way before! Still love Shadowfax though, he's the best offroad steed in the world.

I'm definitely not used to the drop bars - even though I used to use them on Chetz's racer - or accessing the brakes and shifters from the hoods. Lord knows ho i used to use Chetz's oversized racer. (When you're a kid desperate for a ride, you get imaginative.)

One thing's for certain: I am seriously loving my bike.

This morning, Andrew and I trudged along to the Swissotel for the vertical marathon. I was half asleep and there was still glitter in my hair from 's glitter ball birthday bash last night.

In short, we were seriously not in the mood for it. Ee-Lyn had bailed on me due to a bad back and I wasn't looking forward to being cooped up in a narrow stair well and climbing 73 flights of stairs with 1,336 steps. Groan. Andrew and I thought to climb it together, but we were separated by the different flag off times for the various categories. To make matters worse, I found that Ee-Lyn had signed me up under the wrong category and I was entered under the Women's Open!

"You're running with the hardcore nutters," Andrew said. Oh, great. But I would have had to wait more than 1.5hrs after Hubba's flag off time, so I asked the registration ladies if I could run under my age group category, as intended. They said it wasn't a problem, as long as you don't intend to win. Nah. For fun only, I said.

So I waited for half an hour after Andrew's category had set off for the Women's 20-29 category to start. Hmm, there weren't very many of us! It was just me and this other lady, Gigi, at the front of the startline. She said she'd been training for a month. Uh oh. There were some other women behind us, including a team from the Conrad hotel. When the whistle blew, we set off... I decided to take my time and pace myself. I'd done the equivalent of a vertical marathon using some point blocks before, and I knew it wasn't going to be easy. I was expecting quite a bit of pain.

Sure enough, the lactic acid started to burn. Kept going though and overtook Gigi somewhere around level 20. Then, I was alone, save for a few martials who cheered me on as I passed. It was the single most boring race I'd ever done. The stairwell was quiet and all I could hear was the sound of my own breath. The numbers passed me by in that still stairwell, taunting my mind as well as my body. I decided the faster I got to the top, the quicker I'd get water and feel wind on my face. So I kept going, double step all the way.

When I crossed the timing mat, people cheered. Hubba came up to me - a wide smile spanning his cute face. "You're first up!" I was? That's pretty cool! But since this wasn't the category I was entered for, it probably doesn't count. Darn, that kinda sucks. I hadn't timed myself, but I know I made it in less than 20 minutes for sure. I guess I'll know when the results are out.

I wonder what first prize was :)
